Dakṣiṇāyana

Summer Solstice

June 21st, 2027

The Summer Solstice is a celebration of life at its fullest. On the longest day of the year, the forests are lush, the gardens are growing, and the abundance set in motion through spring is everywhere around us. It is a day to celebrate vitality, beauty, and the extraordinary fullness of being alive.

At the heart of this gathering is Prāṇāyāma—the Yogic science of cultivating and directing Prāṇa. Through focused instruction and practice, guests learn how the breath can influence energy, attention, and the state of the body and mind, offering a direct experience of the vital force Yoga understands to animate all life.

Throughout the day, practice, sacred ceremony, seasonal food, flowers, fire, and celebration bring that teaching into living form. At the height of the solar year, we gather not only to understand vitality, but to experience and celebrate it.

YOGIC TEACHING

The Power of Prāṇa

At the height of summer, the natural world offers a vivid expression of vitality, growth, and abundance. Explore the Yogic understanding of Prāṇa—the life force animating the body and all living things—and how Yoga teaches us not simply to have more energy, but to cultivate, direct, and use it well.

YOGIC PRACTICE

Traditional Sūrya Namaskār

Learn the traditional practice of Sūrya Namaskār through breath, and movement coordinated as a single discipline. More than physical exercise, the practice awakens the body, regulates the breath, focuses the mind, and cultivates Prāṇa—making the Summer Solstice a powerful time to experience why Yogis have practiced in relationship with the sun for centuries.

SEASONAL PRACTICE

Solar Gazing & Meditation

Gather on a secluded hilltop overlooking the western mountains as the longest day draws to a close. Through safe observation of the setting sun followed by meditation, experience the Solstice as a living threshold—the height of light and the moment its great turning begins.
