Retreat Schedule

The Rhythm of an Immersion Retreat

From arrival to departure, each day follows the same rhythm that has shaped life at the Ashram for over three decades.

1:00–3:00 p.m. — Arrival & Settling In

Guests arrive throughout the afternoon and are shown their accommodations. Take time to unpack, rest, walk the grounds, or simply sit quietly.

3:00 p.m. — Ashram Tour & Practical Orientation

Become familiar with the temples, gathering spaces, accommodations, and surrounding land. We will also review the Ashram guidelines, the rhythm of meals and practice, what to expect from off-grid living, and the simple ways each guest helps preserve the quiet and sanctity of the environment.

5:00 p.m. — Mitāhāra Dinner

The first meal is shared with the residents and eaten in silence, as all meals at the Ashram are. Mitāhāra is the Yogic practice of eating in the right measure, with attention to what supports balance in the body and mind.

6:00 p.m. — Introduction to the Retreat

The structure of the days ahead is introduced, along with the intention behind the retreat’s practices and the way they work together. Guests also have an opportunity to ask any remaining questions before entering more fully into the rhythm of Ashram life.

7:30–8:30 p.m. — Group Meditation

Guests who feel ready may join the residents for an hour of shared meditation. Those who would benefit from more time to settle are welcome to remain in their accommodations, rest quietly, and prepare for an early night.

8:30 p.m. — Personal Time & Silence

The remainder of the evening is reserved for quiet personal time, journaling, reading, or rest. This allows the body and mind to settle before the first full day of practice.

A Sample Full Day

8:30 a.m. — Yoga Intensive

A guided practice of classical Āsana, the physical postures of Yoga, and Prāṇāyāma, the regulation of breath and vital energy.

10:00 a.m. — Juice or Smoothie & Morning Meeting

Join the residents for a fresh juice or smoothie as the work and practice of the coming day are considered together. The meeting begins with five minutes of silence.

10:30 a.m. — Free Time

This time can be used howeverfor rest, journaling, reading in the Ashram library, meditating in the Lingam Temple, doing Yoga in the Hamsa Yoga Shala, sitting by the stream, or walking on the Pradakshina meditation trails.

Pradakshina is the traditional practice of moving clockwise around a sacred site with sustained attention. This silent forest walk follows a path marked by stone shrines to feminine expressions of Yoga and concludes before the Ashram’s black marble Kālī, who represents the power that removes what obstructs growth.

12:00 p.m. — Mitāhāra Lunch

A nourishing meal eaten in silence. Mitāhāra is the Yogic practice of eating in the right measure, with attention to what supports balance in the body and mind.

12:45 p.m. — Shared Sevā

Guests join the residents in caring for the dining space and completing the community-wide cleanup after the meal.

Once complete, the groups moves to the day’s shared Sevā project. Sevā carries the attention cultivated in formal practice into the ordinary work of daily life. This time might be spent stacking wood, tending the gardens, cleaning temples, or clearing walking meditation paths.

3:30 p.m. — Free Time/Shower Time

Unstructured time to rest, reflect, or spend quietly on the land. Bathe in the Ashram’s sauna bathhouse—daily personal hygiene is an essential part of Yogic living.

5:00 p.m. — Mitāhāra Dinner

A simple, nourishing meal held in silence, allowing the body and senses to settle as the day turns toward evening.

6:00 p.m. — Evening Restoration

Guided meditation and a quiet sequence supporting spinal alignment, nervous-system settling, and preparation for deep sleep.

7:30 p.m. — Group Meditation

The day’s formal practice concludes in shared silence.

8:30 p.m. — Personal Time & Silence

Guests return to their accommodations for journaling, reading, personal practice, or rest.

Departure

The final day continues in the established rhythm of the retreat until it is time to leave. Depending on the retreat, departure may take place earlier or later in the day.

Guests continue to share in the morning practice, meals, teaching, and quiet periods scheduled before their departure. The precise departure time will be confirmed in advance.

Before Departure — Closing Conversation

Time is set aside to reflect on the retreat, ask final questions, and consider how its practices may be carried into daily life.

Participation & Schedule

Guests are encouraged to take part fully in the rhythm of the retreat, but participation in every activity is not required. Guests may step back from or modify a practice when necessary.

The schedule shown here is representative. Activities and timing may shift with the season, the needs of the guests, and the focus of each retreat.
